Towards a feminist alternative mathematics

Franci Mangraviti

The project explores the relationship between alternative mathematics, i.e. mathematics that deviates from the "standard" way of doing mathematics, and feminist mathematics, i.e. mathematics that addresses feminist concerns with mainstream practices. The first objective is to flesh out the notion of alternative mathematics: what does it mean for a piece of mathematics to be alternative, how do alternatives relate to revolutions, how can an alternative be argued for, etc. The second objective is to figure out what kinds of alternative mathematics could serve feminist purposes, building on the growing literature on feminist logic and epistemic injustice in formal disciplines.
