Chair

The chair for history and philosophy of mathematical sciences covers mathematics, formal sciences and formal aspects of other sciences from a variety of humanistic points of view. These include traditional and practice oriented philosophy of mathematics, ancient, medieval, non-western and modern history of mathematics, semiotic analyses of mathematical texts, the study of mathematical cognition, and mathematics as a social and cultural endeavour.

The chair is part of the history and philosophy sections within the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Science. It contributes to the MA programme History and Philosophy of Knowledge and to the Science in Perspective programme. The chair is also member of the ETH Turing Center.
